Geographic Situation |
Uruguay is situated in South America, with coasts on the Atlantic Ocean, between 30° and 35° latitude south of the equator and 53° and 58° longitude west. It’s located in the temperate zone of the southern hemisphere.
It’s bordered to the north and northeast by Brazil; to the west by Argentina across the Uruguay River; to the south by the River Plate (Río de la Plata); and to the east by the Atlantic Ocean.
Its privileged position in the southern cone of the continent is very strategic, since it permits a policy of regional integration. Furthermore, it’s the exit port for the countries of the River Plate basin, and bridges the large countries of Argentina and Brazil. In all, its Atlantic coasts permit fluid communication with the rest of the world, connecting it with the most developed countries.
Uruguay has 450 km of coastline along the River Plate, and 220 km of maritime coastline on the Atlantic, giving room to a great many beautiful, sandy beaches of interest to tourists.
